9.Maintenance and Renovations –deferred until next meeting

 10.New Business

a)      Going Greener – Linda Brown proposed that we consider a more environmentally friendly arrangement for tablecloths used for church dinners. She will purchase 8 lengths of heavy clear plastic from Home Hardware (BMP) for use at our January breakfasts. If they seem practical, we will purchase enough for all of our tables, as they last a long time, and colourful cloths can be used underneath that don’t need any special care. Andy Adamson will investigate using blank newsprint from leftover Kingston Whig Standard rolls, for meals.  He will report his findings at the next meeting.

b)      Midwinter ALL CANADIAN DINNER – Linda Brown has proposed a fund-raising meal, for which advance tickets would be sold. A committee has been struck to find an all-Canadian menu, some Canadian musical entertainment, and (possibly) square dancing, or line-dancing to follow. Proposed date is February 20: committee volunteers so far are Linda Brown, Rachael Henry, Connie Shibley, Diane Buchanan.

c)      Local Outreach – Dorina Friedli  has requested that we give financial support to a local Senior  who needs extensive dental work, but can’t afford it.  Local Outreach will donate $500 of her overall $2800 costs.

d)      Bell-Ringing – Moderator Mardi Tindall has sent a letter to all Canadian United Churches, suggesting we ring our church bell 350 times on December 13, at 3 pm. The ringing , being promoted by the World Council of Churches, will be in solidarity with the UN Summit on Climate Change taking place in Copenhagen , Denmark at that time. 350 is the upper limit of the number of parts per million for carbon dioxide concentration in our atmosphere                                                                .Moved by Linda Brown, seconded by Andy Adamson that we ring our bell on this day, and invite members of Verona area churches; St. Paul’s; the Boy Scouts, and others to join the relay of ringing. We will serve hot chocolate and cookies to participants.
