TRINITY UNITED CHURCH SESSION MEETING      

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

                                                              

 

WELCOME:

Millie Cuthill, Chairperson, constituted the meeting in the name of Jesus Christ the only Head of the Church, at 7:01 p.m.

 

GUEST ANNABELLE TWIDDY:

Annabelle Twiddy spoke to us regarding some new music ideas for our two

churches, beginning first Sunday of Advent through Easter Sunday.

* November 30th, 2008, Advent 1, combined 5th Sunday Service at St. Paul’s,

  at 9:15 a.m. and also Communion. She proposed that (as much as could be)

  of the Choir Concert that will be held at Trinity, December 5th, 2008, be

  given in this service November 30th, 2008, at St. Paul’s.

* April 10th, 2009, Good Friday, Voices of Easter Concert will be held at

  one of the churches in Napanee, is a Benefit for the Canadian Food

  Grains Bank.

* Sunday, April 12th, 2009, Easter Sunday

  Annabelle proposed that rather than having an early lakeshore service,

  to have a Community Choir Concert Benefit for the Canadian Food Grains

  Bank, at Trinity Church, at 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. or 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.

  Breakfast (after service – food to be decided) Donation

  Combined Worship Service, at Trinity at 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.

This Community (Ecumenical) Choir will consist of people from Harrowsmith,

and Verona area, or anyone who wishes to take part. We discussed these

services.

Barb Joyce/Marg Smith motioned we are agreeable to these changes, for at

least one year, if St. Paul’s agree.                               Carried           

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Millie Cuthill, Hannes Friedli, Barb Joyce, John McDougall, Lynda Price,

Gord Ramer, Marg Smith, and Elfleda Watson. (a quorum)

Regrets: Darlene Nicol.

 

OPENING REFLECTIONS:

Marg Smith gave each of us a copy of a “DESIDERATA” (which means Desire

Things in Latin) it was very interesting.

Volunteer for November – Hannes Friedli.

 

ADOPTION OF AGENDA:

With one addition under Business Arising, Millie Cuthill/John McDougall

approved the agenda.                                               Carried

 

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2008:

Barb Joyce/Millie Cuthill moved the adoption of these minutes as printed

and circulated.                                                    Carried

 

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES:

a) Window Plaques – will be on and dedicated Sunday, October 12th, 2008.

b) Wayside Pulpit Plaque – the McKeever Family name will be on it.

c) Summer Services – was discussed at the Official Board, Sept. 22nd, and

   was agreed to take it to both churches Annual Congregational Meeting.

d) Altar Committee – Marg Smith spoke with chairperson, Lucy Spain, says

   she enjoys this committee, and will contact Jane Adamson, and Dorina

   Friedli, to see if they want to continue.

e) Tickets – Lynda Price reported that she spoke with Jillian at Rural

   Visions, who said they told different people about the (free) tickets

   to our Fish Supper, but apparently no one took advantage of them.

   Note – When we met with Stewards, it was decided we would not give

   Rural Visions any more tickets, as Trinity donates all food that is

   left over from our church functions, which is a good Outreach.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

There was a letter from Bay of Quinte Conference, re Audio License Renewal.

John McDougall will speak to Glenda Turner, as he wasn’t sure whether they

were going to be showing any more movies.

 

WORSHIP AND SACRAMENT:

a) Minister’s Report – since last meeting Lynda Price has made 15 visits;

   attended 5 meetings; attended 1 wake; attended 2 funerals; conducted

   Harrowsmith Cemetery Service; conducted 1 wedding.

   Working On – Dedication of Windows, Oct. 12th,

              - St. Paul’s Anniversary Service, Oct. 19th,

              - Living the Question 2 Study, begins Oct. 22nd,

              - Remembrance Day Service (Annabelle bringing trumpeter)

 

MEMBERSHIP PASTORAL CARE:

a) We went over our lists again, and checked on how we could best care for

   the persons, that are assigned to each one of us.

 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION:

At the present time the Sunday School seems to be fine.

 

OUTREACH:

Glenda Turner is working on a program, hopefully to begin in January 2009.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

a) Greeters - for January is Hannes Friedli, February is Millie Cuthill.

b) Order of Service – we decided it was time for another evaluation.

   Lynda Price will put together a questionnaire, which will be passed out

   to the congregation.

c) Scripture Reading – Linda Brown gave Session a letter requesting that we

   continue to read (slowly and clearly) the King James Version of the

   Bible so the children will understand it. (copy of letter att’d)

d) Decorating the Church for Thanksgiving – Millie, Marg, Hannes & Elfleda

   will decorate at 9 a.m. Sat. morning.

e) Remembrance Day Service, Nov. 9th, - will discuss next meeting.

f) Fellowship for Nov. 9th, Men of the Church – Millie will speak to Andy

   Adamson, to see if he will cook the sausages.

g) Article from Sept. Observer, re Safety in our Sunday School – we brought

   this up with Stewards, and decided there were a couple of avenues we

   needed to research, and the time, we would postpone until next meeting.

h) Church Wheelchair – Barb Joyce ask, if she could use one of the wheel-

   chairs, to take Inez Code visiting, etc. and permission was granted.
