TRINITY UNITED CHURCH SESSION MEETING

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

 

 

WELCOME:

Millie Cuthill, Chairperson, constituted the meeting in the name of Jesus Christ the only Head of the Church, at 7:00 p.m.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Millie Cuthill, Hannes Friedli, Barb Joyce, Darlene Nicol, Lynda Price,

Gord Ramer, and Elfleda Watson. (a quorum)

Regrets: John McDougall and Marg Smith.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA:

Millie Cuthill/Elfleda Watson moved adoption of the agenda as presented.

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING OCTOBER 7TH, 2008:

Barb Joyce/Gord Ramer moved the adoption of the minutes as printed and

circulated.                                                      Carried

 

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES:

a) Dedication of Stained Glass Windows – was Oct. 12th. The plaques were

   stuck on, as with wording, there wasn’t room to put screws.

   Note – Andy and Dorothy McCulloch, have donated the monies for the

   refurbishing of another window, which will take place next spring.

b) Safety in our Sunday School – we discussed the article on United Church

   of Canada “Duty of Care” with Children’s Ministries, and will try to

   follow these rules. One especially came to our attention, was that the

   door of a room should be left open when there are only one or two

   children, plus their teacher, caregiver, etc.

   We have found food marks on our chairs, after the “Day Care Group” have

   been, and suggested that they could put a covering over them while

   playing and eating. Millie Cuthill will speak to Penny, the head of

   Day Care.

c) Communion at St. Paul’s, Nov. 30th, - Lynda Price would like some

   servers from Trinity, (Millie, Darlene and Barb will do so, as needed.)

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

 

WORSHIP AND SACRAMENT:

a) Minister’s Report – since last meeting Lynda Price, made 6 visits; 2

   meetings; conducted 1 funeral; attended a meeting re: Christmas; a

   meeting re: Sydenham – Harrowsmith area; Queens Theological Annual

   Conference; 1 week Study Leave, Rural Ministry Symposium.

   Working On – Remembrance Sunday, Nov. 9th,

              - Children’s Sunday, Nov. 23rd,

              - Advent, Nov. 30th,

              - Christmas Angels, for children 13 to 16 yrs. old

 

MEMBERSHIP PASTORAL CARE:

Choir Members/Congregation, and Annabelle Twiddy will make arrangements

to go to Seniors Homes to sing Christmas Carols.

 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION:

 

OUTREACH:

Christmas Hampers – will be packed at Trinity. Lynda Price will ask for a

coordinator(s) from the congregation on Sunday.

Brenda Crawford, from St. Paul’s, has the Costco Store in Kingston donating

30 turkeys.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

a) Remembrance Day Service Nov. 9th, - Ricky Hughes, will be reading a poem

   which he wrote, the Scouts and a piper will take part in the service,

   followed by pancakes and sausages, prepared by the men of our church.

b) Evaluation Forms – hopefully people will turn them in.

c) Snow Clearing – apparently Joyce Casement has someone in mind, but when

   we spoke to Stewards, Ministry & Personnel are the ones to look after

   this problem.

d) Security of Church Building – again we reminded every one, to make sure

   all doors are locked, when leaving the building.
