TRINITY UNITED CHURCH SESSION MEETING

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

 

 

WELCOME:

Millie Cuthill, Chairperson, constituted the meeting in the name of Jesus Christ the only Head of the Church, at 7:00 p.m.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Millie Cuthill, Barb Joyce, John McDougall, Darlene Nicol, Lynda Price, Gord Ramer, and Elfleda Watson. (a quorum)

Regrets: Hannes Friedli, and Marg Smith.

 

OPENING REFLECTIONS:

John McDougall read a story from the book “Gift of Change.”

Volunteer for March – Darlene Nicol.

 

ADOPTION OF AGENDA:

With the addition of Bulletin, Order of Service, under New Business, Millie Cuthill/Darlene Nicol moved the Adoption of the Agenda as presented.                                                        Carried

 

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING JANUARY 6TH, 2009:

Darlene Nicol’s name, in place of John McDougall, went to visit Inez Code.

With this correction Barb Joyce/John McDougall moved the adoption of these minutes as printed and circulated.                                Carried                                                                                                          

 

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES:

a)    Memorial Book – Dorothy McCulloch will update this book for 2008,

with names: Brenda York; Kevin Sigsworth; and Iniz Knox.

 

Note – Katherine Wattam’s Internment Service will be held this

Summer, therefore her name will be entered in the book for 2009.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

Millie Cuthill read parts of a letter United for Peace, along with a United for Peace Petition from the United Church Moderator, David Guilano.

Not being clear on this subject, we decided to put the info out in the Church, for others to read.

 

WORSHIP AND SACRAMENT:

a)    Minister’s Report – since last meeting Lynda Price, made 9 visits; 3 meetings; 1 meeting with a couple re wedding.

b)    Working On – Feb.  8th, Black History Service

-  Feb. 15th, Agenda for Annual Meeting

-  Feb. 22nd, Baden Powell Service and Communion

-  Lenten and Easter Services

-  Easter Concert is 7 a.m. at Trinity

-  Combined Service is 9:15 a.m. at Trinity

 

Note – we will put Flowers on the Cross, again this year (will have to have double the flowers with a combined service)        

 

MEMBERSHIP PASTORAL CARE:

A discussion took place whether we should send Easter Cards, to the people on our Congregation List, and it was decided that we should do so.

                                                                

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION:

Carol McInnes needed a contact person, that she could call, if she is unable to teach her Sunday School Class over the next five weeks. Darlene Nicol volunteered to be this person, and Darlene in turn, will ask someone to take Carol’s Class for her.

 

OUTREACH:

January, Family Night was a positive, with 30 children/adults attending and looking forward to the next one, Friday, February 27th.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

a)    Communion Wafer – Rice Cake broken in small pieces will be suffice.

b)    Chair & Secretary Volunteers for March 3rd, MeetingJohn McDougall

will Chair; Darlene Nicol/Elfleda Watson will take minutes. (Thanks)

c)    Pulpit Supply – if you have any suggestions on this subject, bring it to March meeting for discussion, then it can be passed on to the Official Board Meeting, Apr. 20th, at St. Paul’s.

d)    Funding for Easter Sunday Morning purchase of music – a letter is

being distributed to area businesses to see if they want to advertise (by a voluntary donation) in the advertising of this Concert. It was also suggested that some monies could come from a (church) resource, or any individual who would like to make a donation.

e)    Greeter Replacement for the month of Feb. and someone for March – Darlene Nicol/Barb Joyce volunteered for Feb. and Elfleda Watson volunteered for March.

f)    Replacement for Gord Ramer’s Duties – Gord will recruit Bulletin Readers; Elfleda Watson will make sure donation envelopes are in the pews, and John McDougall and Millie Cuthill will recharge the battery

for the Stairtrac Climber, every two months.

g)    Bulletin/Order of Service – the questionnaire results have been compiled and copies are at the back of the church.

 

Note – a discussion took place re changing the wording of the Mission Statement. This will have to be brought up at Official Board Meeting, Apr. 20th, at St. Paul’s.
