CHURCH SESSION MEETING
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
WELCOME:
Millie
Cuthill, Chairperson, constituted the meeing in the name of Jesus Christ the
only Head of the Church, at 7:00 p.m.
MEMEBERS PRESENT:

Barb Stewart and Elfleda Watson. (a quorum)

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING JUNE
2ND, 2009:

Smith/Elfleda Watson moved the adoption of these minutes as printed and
circulated. Carried
BUSINESS ARISING FROM
MINUTES:
a) September
Fellowship
– Sunday School started September 13th. Fellowship
will
be September 20th, Potluck Brunch, (finger foods.) This will give
Rev. Lynda time to get invitations out to past baptisms as planned.
b) Healing Services – being held
weekly on Wednesdays at the Campsall’s home. (Lynda Price will confirm for
bulletin)
c) Dead Sea Scrolls – currently on
display at the ROM. Opportunity for churches to register for a discount for any
attendees. Lynda Price will put info in the bulletin. During the week of Oct.
11th, to 18th, the display will also feature a 2000 year
old copy of The Ten Commandments.
d) Window
Application to National Church – no update
e) Church Info
Brochure
– move to Oct. Agenda
f)
Advertising and Editorial Policy – draft has not yet been
reviewed by St. Paul’s. Perhaps for Official Board Agenda.
CORRESPONDENCE:
None
discussed at meeting. Note –
Marg Smith, sent Betty Spafford, a “Get Well” card after the meeting, visited
her on Thursday, September 3rd, being discharged on Friday,
September 4th.
WORSHIP AND SACRAMENT:
Minister’s
Report
– since June meeting Lynda Price has done 30 visits; 5 meetings; conducted 4
weddings; completed Rural Ministry course and submitted final paper; conducted
Wilmer Cemetery Service; attended 2 wakes; conducted 2 funerals; attended
McInnes’ healing service (now be held weekly in the Campsall home.) There has
been a request for a Cemetery Service in Verona, for September 27th.
The last one was held in June, 2009. (This is a very busy time of year for
Lynda.)

for UCW Fall Rally, Sept. 14th.

b) Away – Lynda Price
will be away on Study Leave, Oct. 19th, - Oct. 25th.
There will be a combined worship service at Trinity, led by the
UCW.
c) Gideon Bible
Society Request – that the church display “In Memorium” donation cards. These
will be put out on a trial basis for a few months, and review after Christmas.
d) Suggestions – Re Survey of
Church Priorities which appeared in a recent
Observer, that
this become subject of a sermon sometime/that someone who attends General
Council be invited to speak some Sunday.
Note – (as of Sept.
16th,) Learning the Question 2, to start Sept. 23rd, only
3 people have registered.
MEMBERSHIP AND PASTORAL
CARE:
a) Recognition and
Honouring our Seniors (over 80) – suggestion from congregation that we plan
a special occasion/a spring fellowship.

b) Country Home Care – located north
of Godfrey, has residents known to us.
A discussion re
association with this church similar to that we had with the Bentley Home.
Lynda Price will contact the Home, for this info.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION:
Sunday
School starts Sept. 13th. Katharine (secretary) offered to speak to
the children re writing to members of the military overseas. Lynda Price will
discuss with teachers.
OUTREACH:
a) Playgroup Update – John McDougall
passed out copies of a proposal from Mary Beth. Millie Cuthill will contact her
with our positive response.
NEW BUSINESS:
a) Dedication of
remaining 4 Windows – as the McCulloch’s donated the cost of one
window, we will look for a date in October when they can attend. The other 3
were paid from the Memorial Fund. Millie will put an info item in the next
Newsletter re funding for the other 3 and repaying the Memorial Fund. Also an
informal discussion re repairing the beautiful window in the exterior wall
between the front doors and possibly moving it to the interior wall at the back
of the church where it would be more visible. A potential project for our 125th,
anniversary.
b) Lay Readers List – a good time to
solicit more volunteers. A notice will go in the bulletin.
