TRINITY UNITED CHURCH SESSION MEETING

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

 

 

WELCOME:

Millie Cuthill, Chairperson, constituted the meeting in the name of Jesus Christ the only Head of the Church, at 7:00 p.m.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Millie Cuthill, Barb Joyce, John McDougall, Darlene Nicol, Lynda Price, Marg Smith, Barb Stewart and Elfleda Watson. (a quorum)

Regrets: Vera Brown.

 

OPENING REFLECTIONS:

Millie Cuthill read “A Spring Blessing” followed by a prayer.

Volunteer for  June 2nd, - Vera Brown.

 

ADOPTION OF AGENDA:

With the one addition under Outreach, and one under New Business, Millie Cuthill/Barb Joyce moved the adoption of the Agenda as presented.

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING MARCH 31st, 2009:

On page 19, under New Business, (d) UCW, should read Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer (not soap.) With this correction Barb Joyce/John McDougall moved the adoption of these minutes as printed and circulated.           Carried                                                                                                         

 

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES:

a)    Advertising Policy – John McDougall will have info for June meeting.

b)    Mission Statement Update – Glenda Turner and John McDougall, are looking at the (old) questions of the Mission Statement, along with

some people from St. Paul’s, they will put together a questionnaire,

for suggestions of a new Mission Statement.

c)    Member of Session for Lay Reader List – being this list had to be in

for the Newletter, by May 11th, Barb Joyce done this list from June to the end of September. She also agreed to continue with this list until February 2010.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:

 

WORSHIP AND SACRAMENT:

a)    Minister’s Report – since last meeting Lynda Price has done 19  visits; 4 meetings; met with 3 families re funerals; conducted 3 funerals; attended 1 wake; attended Erin Burns’ covenanting service.

b)    Working On – begin Rural Ministry course on May 12th, for 6 weeks.

-   Newsletter out May 17th,

-   Will be attending Bay of Quinte Conference Annual Meet-

                  ing in Pembroke, May 21st, to 24th. Rev. Mary Gaynor-

                  Briese, will be covering for pastoral care.

-   Q.T.C. Conference, see Newsletter for details.

-   Bulletin Covers, see Newsletter for details.

-   Joint Worship Committee will meet Thurs. May 14th, at

 6:30 p.m. at Trinity. Marg Smith and Elfleda Watson

 volunteered as Trinity reps for this committee.

c)    Lending Library Location – it was suggested that any books from the Book Review in the Newsletter, be put in a Lending Library located in the Memorial Room, then anyone who wishes to read a book could sign it out/in, at their convenience.

d)    Sunday School – will end with promotions on Sunday, May 31st.

e)    Summer Holiday Services

August  2 – Earl Taft (combined service at Trinity)

August  9 – Verona Festival Service (no service at Trinity)

August 16 – Elaine Smith

August 23 – Desert Lake Campground (Ralph & Carol McInnes)

                

MEMBERSHIP PASTORAL CARE:

 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION:

a)    Lynda Price will prepare some Children’s Bulletins for the fall.

b)    Millie Cuthill will pick up flowers for the Sunday School Teachers for Sunday, May 31st.

 

OUTREACH:

A discussion took place, what could the church do, for the mothers who have to sit and wait, while their children are in Daycare. There were two or three suggestions made, have them come upstairs for conversation, coffee and muffins; maybe some of them would like to learn how to cook, etc. Millie Cuthill, will speak with Daycare Teachers, Penny Cota and Marcie Webster on Fri. May 15th, in regards to these suggestions, and in turn John McDougall will speak to Susan Leslie, head of Childcare in Sharbot Lake.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

a)    Anniversary Sunday June 14th, - Ruth Brown is doing the church Memorabilia. Linda Brown is organizing the potluck. Barb Stewart and Linda Norman are making and decorating the Anniversary Cake. Elfleda Watson is making homemade Ice Cream.

b)    Guest Speaker Lois Wilson – will come to Kingston, by train, on Saturday, June 13th, stay at her daughter’s, and Lynda Price will bring her out on Sunday.
