Minutes of the Congregational Meeting held February 3, 2008

 

Opening - Rev. Lynda Price opened the meeting at 4:05 p.m. and Erin Burns (student minister) lead in a prayer.

 

Attendance - A quorum was present consisting of Erin Burns, Lynda Price, Jane Adamson, Don Coleman, Bert Mountney, Doug MacIntyre, Linda Brown, Bill Campsall, Margaret Campsall, Elfleda Watson, Margaret Reynolds, Millie Cuthill, Barb Joyce, Gord Ramer, Carol Ramer, John McDougall, Ed Asselstine, Denny Buchanan, Ann McDougall, Paul W. Spaar, Deborah Spaar-Mueller, Dorina Friedli, Hannes Friedli, Bonnie Brown, Lynda Ann Boulter, Doug Boulter, Jennifer Bennett, Darlene Nicol, Diane Buchanan, Andy Adamson, Lucy Spain, Ralph McInnes, Carl Turner, Glenda Turner

 

Chairperson and Secretary - Andy Adamson and Glenda Turner agreed to be chairperson and secretary.

 

Agenda - Moved by Elfleda Watson and seconded by Linda Brown that the agenda be accepted as printed with two additons to New Business.  Carried.

 

Corresponding Members - Moved by Carol Ramer and seconded by Carl Turner that all persons present who are not full members of Trinity United Church be made corresponding members for this meeting.  Carried.

 

Minutes - Moved by Doug Boulter and seconded by Bill Campsall that the minutes of February 11, 2007 be accepted as printed.  Carried.

 

Business Arising from the Minutes - No action had taken place to form a Fundraising Committee in 2007 so this will be implemented with one person from Session and one from Stewards with volunteers  from the congregation.

 

Governance - A vote was used to decide whether to change our governance from Session/Stewards to a Church Council.  The vote was 22 to remain with our present format and 10 to change. Motion defeated. Moved by John McDougall and seconded by Diane Buchanan that the ballots be destroyed after the vote.  Carried.

 

Stain Glass Window Repair/Replacement - Lucy Spain spoke to the three options available to repair or replace the sanctuary windows.  This plan would enable Session to be organized in case somebody wishes to donate money for this purpose.   A letter from Andy and Dorothy McCulloch was received that they wished to have the present windows repaired as their suggestion.  Thanks was expressed to Lucy Spain for all her window research.  A vote was held and option number one to repair our present windows as opposed to replacing them was agreed.  Moved by Gord Ramer and seconded by Doug MacIntyre that the ballots be destroyed following the vote.  Carried.

 

Thank you - Thanks was expressed to  Lynda Price for all her faithful  work with our congregation  and a standing ovation followed.  Thanks also will be extended to our secretary Judy for her excellent work.

 

Pastoral Charge Reports - Moved by Millie Cuthill and seconded by Carl Turner that all the pastoral charge reports be accepted as reported in the Annual Report.  Carried.

 

Congregational Reports - The Congregational Reports were previously voted on so they are for information purposes.

 

Nominations Report - Moved by John McDougall and seconded by Ed Asselstine that Glenda Turner be added as secretary for the Official Board.  Carried.  Moved by Lynda Boutler and seconded by Bill Campsall that Doug Boulter be the financial examiner for 2008.  Carried.  Elfleda Watson presented the Nominations Report and  moved the acceptance of this report and Jane Adamson seconded it.  Carried.

 

M&S Goal - The pastoral charges M&S goal for 2008 is $22,500.

 

Financial Examiners - Andy Adamson volunteered to be the financial examiner for the pastoral charge for 2008.  Thanks was extended to Don Coleman for his wonderful work with the church finances and the website.

 

Anniversary Sunday June 8 - John McDougall volunteered to organize this day.  Linda Brown is responsible for the dinner on June 7th.  Speaker suggestions were Rev. Elaine Smith and Rev. Barry Goodwin.

 

Congregational Representative on Nominations Committee - Deborah Spaar-Mueller volunteered  for this position.

 

Church Picnic - Moved by Bill Campsall and seconded by Marg Campsall that Trinity accept the McCulloch invitation for July 26, 2008.  Glenda Turner will write to thank them for the invitation and accept.

 

Ila Townsend Fund - Moved by John McDougall and seconded by Gord Ramer that the present principal of the Ila Townsend Fund not be used for general expenses, but be invested by the Trustees; and that the Session is authorized to use the interest from the fund for Outreach activities.  Changes can be made in this decision by the congregation at a meeting called for this purpose.  Carried.  The fund gain at December 31, 2007 was $340.46.

 

Minutes - John McDougall reported that now minutes can be typed instead of hand-written.

 

Sunday, February 10 - February is Black History month and after church there were be a presentation on the Congo.

 

St. Paul Trustees - Lynda Price reported that the Trustees will proceed with the sale of the manse.

 

Trinity Breakfasts - Saturday breakfasts were served on five Saturdays with a total of 232 people served.

 

Adjournment - Ralph McInnes adjourned the meeting at 6:00 p.m.  A pot-luck meal was shared following the meeting.
